agento

A terminal AI agent for MiniMax's models, written in Go and modelled on Claude Code.

A chat agent that runs in the terminal on MiniMax's language models, modelled on Claude Code (and not affiliated with it). Replies stream into a Bubble Tea interface, and ten built-in tools let it read and edit files, run shell commands and search the web. Every conversation is kept in a local SQLite database, so a session can be resumed, switched or rewound. It builds to one binary for Windows, macOS and Linux.

Status
Working, at version 0.3.0, and not published anywhere yet. Trying it needs your own MiniMax API key.
Describe the task; it searches, edits and runs the tests, with slash commands and subagents a keystroke away.

How it works§

  1. 01

It talks to MiniMax through the official Anthropic Go SDK, because MiniMax offers an Anthropic-compatible endpoint: only the base URL changes, and one setting picks the China or the international region.

  2. 02

A failed request is retried — up to three times, with backoff, for rate limits, overloads and dropped connections — only until the first piece of the answer arrives. After that a failure is reported as an incomplete reply, since retrying would print the answer twice.

  3. 03

The tool loop has hard limits: at most 10 tool turns per message, and only the last 50 messages go to the model. If the limit is reached it writes a closing reply itself, so the saved history always ends on a valid turn.

  4. 04

Plan mode is enforced in code, not in the prompt: while it is on, every tool call comes back as skipped instead of running, so the model can only propose.

  5. 05

Everything is pure Go, SQLite included (through a pure-Go driver), so it builds with cgo off and cross-compiles to one static binary for three operating systems without a C toolchain.
