Dou Dizhu
Fight the Landlord: bid to play alone against two farmers, then shed your hand in pairs, straights, airplanes and bombs.
Sit down
You play against Ada and Bruno, hand after hand; the scores run on until you start afresh.
How it plays
- Bid 1, 2 or 3 to be the landlord, or pass. The landlord takes the three bottom cards and plays alone against the two farmers.
- The landlord leads. Each play must be the same kind as the last and higher, or pass. When both others pass, the last to play leads again.
- Kinds: singles, pairs, triples (alone, with one card or a pair), straights of five or more, three or more pairs in a row, airplanes of consecutive triples (with wings), four with two, bombs and the rocket. No 2s or jokers in a sequence.
- A bomb (four alike) beats anything but a higher bomb; the rocket (both jokers) beats everything. Each doubles the score, as does a spring.
- First side out wins: the landlord alone, or either farmer for both.
